BTU stands for British Thermal Unit and is a unit of measure of cooling or heating capacity.
1 BTU is the amount of heat required to raise (or lower) the temperature of 1 pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit. There are 12,000 BTU’s in 1 Ton of Cooling. It is also the amount of heat stored in one standard match stick.
